Travel Trends 2024 Report (Part 5): Wellness Wealth

I talk to wellness experts about the growth in demand for immersive well-being experiences when travelling.

Serenbe, a nature-focused wellness community, located outside of Atlanta, is a pioneering retreat that has long championed immersive experiences. Set on 1,000 acres—70% of which is preserved as green space—it encompasses a 29-room inn, a 25-acre organic farm and miles of forest trails.
Garnie Nygren, COO and co-managing director at Serenbe, reveals more about its ethos: “There’s been a big shift toward holistic wellness in our cultural mindset right now. People don’t just want to travel for wellness experiences—they want to integrate wellness into their everyday lives. Serenbe has been paving the way toward this lifestyle and setting the bar in the space for almost 20 years. Serenbe is founded on biophilic principles and that the key to wellness is having a deeper connection with nature.”
She continues: “Our vision of wellness isn’t limited to the spa. Instead, Serenbe’s thoughtfully-planned community is designed to support wellness in every aspect of life. From the locally-grown produce from our organic farm to a conservation model that preserves nature while providing development opportunities—we look at wellness holistically.”
Predicting that ‘nature therapy’ will have its moment in the wellness space in 2024, Garnie says that nature-focused wellness activities, like guided meditation, labyrinth walks and equine therapy, will be more popular than ever. “Consumers are also willing to travel for these kinds of experiences, and we anticipate that biophilic wellness travel—or immersive nature travel—will be a big consumer focus going forward,” she adds.
