This summer marks the 14th growing season with nearly 60 apprentices to date working and learning alongside the Farm Manager, and the program is at the core of their history and philosophy.
Serenbe Farms receives dozens of applications each year for the competitive program of 4 seasonal apprentice spots, and they choose those who have a serious interest in farming as a lifestyle and livelihood. Why would those be the most important qualities? Because the program is designed to give apprentices all the tools they’ll need to leave Serenbe Farms to run or start their own farm.
The Serenbe Farms apprentices come from a variety of backgrounds - from other farms to collegiate nutrition programs to careers completely unrelated - and each has a different vision for their future. The consensus amongst all that end up in the program as to why they chose Serenbe Farms, however, is that it offers the unique opportunity to work a full season. Serenbe Farms apprentices get to see crops from seed to harvest, feed people through a certified organic CSA program and be a part of the larger Serenbe community.
The Serenbe Farms apprenticeship program runs February-November, with off-season work in December and options to stay on and continue working across multiple agriculture and culinary businesses.
