The future of Serenbe as visualized by Steve Nygren

Three years ago, it was hard to visualize Steve Nygren’s plans for Serenbe’s future neighborhood, Mado. Flash forward to present day, where 87 homes are not only built but occupied, and more homes and businesses pop up every day, now it’s hard to picture Mado as just forests with potential.  A Creek Indian word for "life in balance," Mado's focus is health and wellness, with a look and feel all its own.

Inspired by Steve’s trip to Scandinavia, the wellness-focused neighborhood houses 150 residents, offers an array of new housing choices and amenities and has become a model for wellness real estate developments. Mado has even been featured in publications and research, such as the recent Global Wellness Institute research report, “Build Well To Live Well.”

Mado has brought in new retail and services thanks to the 30,000 sq. ft. One Mado commercial building, an eco-friendly showhome – the Naturally, Danny Seo House, a resident-only Swim Club and new culinary offerings sprouting from both the ground in the medicinal garden and the kitchen, with Halsa restaurant.

The first homeowner in Mado moved in Spring 2017. By the end of the year, more than 42 homes were under contract.

And Serenbe continues to grow. In the works are 150 new homes and offices from Selborne and Swann Ridge to Grange and Mado. Design duo Cecelia Winston and Steve Dray of Serenbe Planning and Design are taking the helm in drafting the streetscapes and many of the homes and live-work units in Mado.
