Ways To Foster A Yogic Lifestyle And Yogis To Help You On That Journey

Ever been in a yoga class sitting in a wonky, slightly uncomfortable position trying to catch your breath when the teacher says something incredibly profound that resonates in that very instant? If you’re a seasoned “yogi”, you’ve probably experienced a moment like this. Or if you’re new to yoga, you may have noticed how the teacher more than likely gives off a very confident, focused, healthy, contagious energy. Yoga is more than stretching and breathing; the practice involves living your yoga on and off the mat. It means living your best, most authentic, healthy life.

If you know a yoga instructor or on your way to becoming one, you realize there’s a lot of inner work involved, as well as, living out your yoga practice even after you step off the mat or leave the studio. Living a yogic lifestyle means that you reshape your values, attitude and overall way of life to be more aligned with the philosophies, principals, morals and ethics of the ancient practice of yoga. Priorities can include a focused mind, loving heart and healthy body. There is also a state of inner peace involved, allowing your teacher to freely guide you through movement while implementing a philosophical component that can help you grow into your best self. That’s why when you hear something that resonates deeply during your yoga class, many times you’re also learning something about yourself.

One way to help implement a yogic lifestyle is living in an environment or community that helps foster and promote those healthy habits in the mind and body. So, having access to fresh food is important. Surrounding yourself with like-minded people is vital, including different classes and instructors to learn from different perspectives. Living in a space in conjunction with nature is extremely helpful, as we know that spending time in nature helps reduces stress, find inner peace and let go of unnecessary or negative thoughts. For these reasons, yoga teachers who live or work in Serenbe can totally thrive. With access to so many health and wellness amenities, especially fresh food and nature, living a yogic lifestyle is a little more accessible. But who are these incredible teachers who live, work and play in Serenbe? Keep scrolling below to meet your Serenbe yogis who teach at Serenbe Yoga & Bodyworks and sign up for a class today.

HEATHER RUTH

After leaving a high stress career that left her sick and tired, Heather made her way to teaching yoga and becoming the owner of Serenbe Yoga. Her journey to yoga began as a way to manage stress and gain physical strength. She received her Thai Yoga Therapist certification and 200 RYT in Costa Rica specializing in Restorative and Breathework, and attained her 300 RYT through The Maze Method, which focuses on alignment.  She is also certified in Aerial Yoga and Yoga Nidra. As the proud Mom to 5 Nigerian Goats (in addition to daughter Madison), most weekends Heather can be found teaching Goat Yoga at The Animal Village at Serenbe. Heather's classes are light hearted and meditative in nature. Listen to Heather’s story on the Serenbe Stories

JESS ROBINSON

Jess is a native Atlantan, and what was once a dream is now her reality as her family joined the Serenbe community in July of 2020. In true gypsy fashion, Jess has wandered back and forth between teaching yoga and working in corporate America, and is currently working on her certification as a Naturopath and Meditation/Mindfulness leader. She attained her RYT 200 and RYT 300 training in the style of Iyengar, which focuses on alignment. Jess has a non-intimidating, lighthearted teaching style. Her intention is to raise consciousness by applying spiritual concepts to the practice and the poses, therefore creating an uplifting experience. Jess leaves your body feeling loved, and your mind and spirit stimulated to show up in the world in a more compassionate and heart driven way. Jess’s classes run the spectrum of the traditional 26 pose hot sequence, power vinyasa, and her absolute favorite – Yoga Basics/Beginners. In yoga - everyone is a beginner, as each experience on the mat is new and different. Yoga is for everyone!

JEN FOSTER

Originating from California, and eventually landing in Serenbe by way of New Mexico with her beautiful family, Jen brings tons of energy to her classes. She enjoys a myriad of activities including cycling, Pilates, and of course, teaching high energy classes such as Tabata-style HIIT 45. She enjoys getting out and moving her body and the rewards of hard work. When not in the studio, you can find her in her garden or hanging with her family.

STEPHANIE BERNSTEIN

Stephanie brings over 20 years of experience in yoga, movement and healing. With a basis in Alexander Technique, she received her original yoga teaching certification with Cyndi Lee at OM Yoga Center in New York City in 2001. While that training gave her a strong foundation in Shambala Buddhism and Mindfulness Meditation, Stephanie pursued her passion for yoga therapeutics. She loves working on an individual basis with students to address specific concerns. A bit of a gypsy throughout the years, Stephanie had the privilege of having studied with a great many master teachers and has taught in many places including New York, Boulder, Maui and San Francisco. She is RY- 500 certified, and is also Reiki certified. While living and teaching in the San Francisco Area, she also ran her company, To-Go Ware and worked with Yoga Journal Magazine as a yoga model and as their sustainability blogger. These days, when not chasing her 3 children around, Stephanie teaches alignment focused classes that encourage self-inquiry, breathwork and mindfulness.

STEVIE SEAY

Stevie began practicing yoga in 2014 as a way to manage anxiety and continue authentic movement after a 19 year dance career. Knowing the importance of moving and stretching the body, she picked up yoga online, not knowing how effective the practice would be beyond the physical components. This sparked a passion for sharing this practice with others, and she completed her 200 hour Vinyasa teacher training in 2020 through M3Yoga, while also assisting Goat Yoga with Serenbe Yoga & Bodyworks. Stevie's passion for authentic movement, flow and alignment shines through in her classes, along with spiritual and philosophical components to help her students become the best version of themselves. She plans to further her yoga education with future training, such as Aerial and Yoga Nidra. Although Stevie doesn’t live in Serenbe, she has worked for the Serenbe Marketing team for almost 4 years now.

JENY MATHIS

Jeny has been teaching yoga for over 20 years. And through her own practice she has come to understand that the mind-body-spirit connection is critical to wellbeing. She has worked in all kinds of settings bringing tools and practices to everyday people to help them slow down, be present and experience now the life they are working so hard to build or maintain. Those practices include mindfulness or other meditation, yoga, and facilitated labyrinth walks.  Her hope is that with these tools and practices her students will become more aware, live more authentically and connect more deeply with themselves, each other and their communities. Jeny is a qualified yoga and meditation teacher, certified Verditas Labyrinth Facilitator, and is also a 200 hour and Aerial RYT.
